Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Some of you might be interested in a film titled Diving Bell and the Butterfly that will be showing at the Dole Cannery this Wednesday at 7pm as part of the Hawaii International Film Festival. You can find out more online at hiff.org

Here is a synopsis of the film:

Diving Bell and the Butterfly
(Le Scaphandre et le Papillon)

At 43, Jean-Dominique Bauby, the rakishly successful and charismatic editor-in-chief of French Elle suffered a massive stroke and his brain stem was rendered inactive. After lapsing into a coma, he awoke to find himself the victim of a rare "locked-in syndrome" - mentally alert but permanently deprived of movement and speech. The only way he could communicate was by moving his left eye. Like its cinema predecessors MY LEFT FOOT and THE SEA INSIDE, the film captures the power of human resolve.
